Scaling Beyond Amazon

Scaling beyond a marketplace means selling the same product to businesses that buy cases and resell them. Three doors exist. Direct wholesale, where you find a store and invoice it yourself. Wholesale marketplaces, where buyers browse a catalog and you pay a commission. Your own B2B storefront, where approved accounts log in and see trade pricing. Beyond those sits export, where a distributor buys in bulk and owns a territory.

A few decisions do most of the damage. Keep your marketplace price and your stockists' shelf price aligned, or your own listing undercuts the stores you just signed. Do not treat wholesale as a clearance channel for slow inventory; stores reorder what sells, not what you needed to move. Build the boring parts before the first order rather than after: a line sheet, a case pack, freight terms and a way to accept a purchase order.

The hard part is cash, not demand. Marketplace revenue arrives in days. A wholesale order ships now and pays in thirty or sixty, and larger buyers add costs before a single case moves: EDI, routing guides, labeling. The trap is treating a first chain order as a win and financing it out of working capital that was already committed to inventory you have not sold yet.

Start with the guide to selling off Amazon and the comparison of Amazon FBA fees against wholesale margin, so you can see what a case order is worth next to a month of marketplace sales. Then read how to build a wholesale program from scratch, and the wholesale marketplace comparison if you would rather buyers found you.
